About Latino Canon
Latino Canon indexes Latino-led films and series and makes them searchable by plot, theme, era, or filmmaker — in English or Spanish.
How a title qualifies
Every title carries at least one inclusion type: Latino-directed, Latino-created, about the community, breakthrough first, Latino-led cast, or Latino-produced. Curated titles carry an editor's tags; a classifier proposes them for the rest, and low-confidence calls go to an editor. The tag and where it came from are shown on every title.
AI, disclosed
“Why it matters” notes are model-written from cited sources and appear only once approved: by an editor, or by an AI judge that checks every claim against those sources and approves only a note it finds fully supported. Search combines keyword (BM25) and semantic (embedding) retrieval. The Evals page shows how well both are working.
